“Inside, my soul became so cold I hated everything. I even despised the sun, for I knew I would never be able to play in its warm presence. I cringed with hate whenever I heard other children laughing, as they played outside. My stomach coiled whenever I smelled food that was about to be served to somebody else, knowing it wasn't for me.”
Dave Pelzer, A Child Called "It"

The book __A Child Called” It__” is a book that will have you crying in matters of seconds. This biography for young adults is based on a true story of a young boy by the name of Dave. Dave was one out of four kids. Like most kids he liked to play outside, watch movies, and joke with the family. Even though he enjoyed those things he never had the opportunity to enjoy them. Dave could not enjoy them because his mother would never let him. Dave was a victim of abuse. During this book the young child often dealt with punishments for being a bad boy. These punishments were very abusive. "Of all Mother’s punishments, I hated the gas chamber game the most.”p. 109. The gas chamber is the name of the form of punishment where his mother places a pail full of ammonia and Clorox in the bathroom and locked him the the bathroom with the fumes making it near to impossible to breathe. Among many this was one of Dave's mother's form of punishment for being a bad boy.

Dave was often judged at school because of his clothes he would wear and because of all the scares on his body from his mom's beatings. Also he was often judged because he would seal other class mates food from their backpack because his mother would not feed David for days or even weeks. As you re this book it will have you thinking about topics that may not cross your mind every day. It may also have you crying and laughing.

I knew that when I read the first page of the book I would not be able to put it back down. This book just draws the reader in by its word choices and mostly by the heart breaking story. I think this book is a good book for teens and older. The reason why s because it has come very descriptive wording that may not be suitable for anyone younger than a teen. Also some of the word choices the author used is for a more mature audience. I really liked this book because I love psychology, so i liked the psychology side of this book. If i were to rate this book i would rate it a 4 out of 5. because the whole book was wonderful but i thought it should have been longer. This book is only around 200 pages.

Other than a great book author he is a motivational speaker. This book is a biography of his life as a child. Dave pelzer has written a few more books about his life. Some other books that he has written are the lost boy The Privilege of Youth , A Man Named Dave, and plenty more. I think when the author wrote this book he wanted to show kids that may have been through the same problems are are going through it right now, that there is a hope for a brighter future. Also i think he created this book to raise awareness to this very touchy topic, and to make people think how they could help.If you would like to read any of these books they are on amazon and some of the audio books are free.
